Web site Migration Services
Consulting Land has significant experience in migrating Web sites between Web infrastructures. Consulting Land will address version control, server deployment and asset tracking. We use the following procedure:
Site Analysis
- Determine platform dependencies and technologies used
- Determine general functionality
- Develop functional specification documents for platform and non-platform specific functionality, so that these functions can be replicated on the target platform or platforms
Content Aggregation
- Perform orphan analysis for each site, to "clean up" unused content
- Archive each site up individually, preserving file structure
Target Environment Set-up
- Evaluate Target Environment, including staging and production servers
- Prepare Target Environment for incoming content
- Set up virtual servers for each document root and/or domain name
Content Migration
- Transfer files in appropriate locations on the Target Staging environment
- Deploy to Production Servers
- Migrate Databases (if applicable)
- Replicate Web authentication schemes (if any exist)
- Set up access control lists
- Password-protect directories
- Implement functionality to meet functional specification documents
- Set-up web accounts and re-index content
Quality Control
- Run link verification and W3C validator checkers across Web site
- Check for browser compatibility
- Check for correct authentication
- Check for Web site performance
The exact procedure may differ depending on client's existing and
the target infrastructure, requirement for modifying and updating
the content, and/or porting the content to different platforms.
